What is Rice Purity Test?

The Rice Purity Test is a self-guided survey originally created by Rice University students in 1924 as a lighthearted way to reflect on life experiences and measure "innocence levels." What began as a 10 question survey exclusively for women has evolved into a 100 question test, widely recognized as a fun social tool for bonding and self-discovery, especially during Student orientation week.


The test covers various life experiences, from personal habits to social interactions, and assigns a score from 0 to 100, where 100 reflects the highest "purity." Over the decades, the test has been refined to remove inappropriate content and foster inclusivity, ensuring it remains a student-friendly and positive experience.


Today, we offer tailored versions such as the Girls' Purity Test, Boys' Purity Test, and Innocence Test to accommodate diverse preferences while staying true to its original purpose: encouraging self-reflection and connection.

Why Do You Need to Test Rice Purity?

At Rice University, we recognize that the traditional Rice Purity Test, while fun for many, can sometimes include content that may make students feel uncomfortable or anxious.


As part of the Well-being and Counseling Center, we've seen firsthand how certain questions in the original test can be inappropriate or overly personal, which may discourage participation.


Our redesigned Rice Purity Test is aimed at creating a safer, more inclusive experience. It removes harmful, adult-themed content and focuses on providing a lighthearted and supportive reflection on personal experiences.


This version is designed to respect individual boundaries, promote mental well-being, and foster a sense of community, all while keeping the fun and social engagement intact.


We believe this updated test can be a positive and healthy tool for students to reflect on their lives and share their scores with confidence.

100 - 98 - Extremely Pure

Scoring between 100 - 98 is exceptional. It indicates the highest purity level and places you in a prestigious category.

Those who score between 98 and 100 should share it with their loved ones and gain popularity on social media. These scores are rare and indicate minimal romantic experiences or societal exposure.

97 - 94 - High Purity

Those with limited social exposure often get a score in this range. It indicates that you haven’t been exposed to bad habits much and are still pure to the maximum extent.

Scores between 94 and 97 indicate maturity, strong social skills, and minimal bad habits. These individuals are close to achieving a perfect level and are likely to reach it eventually.

93 - 77 - Moderate Purity

If you score the Rice Purity Test between 93 and 77, You possess a well-rounded character, combining societal exposure and positive habits. Such individuals usually follow a balanced approach and are on the right path.

Scores near 77 suggest a need for habit improvement and indicate a broad range of experiences alongside some innocence.

76 - 45 - Moderate to Low Purity

Those scoring between 76 - 45 are adventurous and have many experiences. The score indicates that you are not a complete extrovert and still enjoy adventurous activities with others.

You are a thoughtful individual eager to explore the world while keeping boundaries. Seek experience, but remember your limits and prioritize personal growth.

Below 45 - Experienced But Resilient

A score below 45 suggests significant societal exposure and diverse experiences, along with involvement in social, romantic, and potentially risky behaviors.

A score closer to 0 indicates room for growth. Scores between 0 and 45 provide an opportunity for self-improvement, encouraging reflection on past decisions and positive changes for the future.
